Screenprinting 2.0

I am currently suffering from the plague (i.e the worst cold ever) but I pulled myself away from bed on Monday to attend a Screenprinting session. I had such a good day, it was worth getting up for and everyones prints turned out SOO good.  10/10 for our lot.   
Anyway, we could either do a print based on our current project or a print on anything we liked. Over Christmas I read "The Snow Child" and it inspired me to create a winter cabin scene with foxes surrounding the cabin for a touch of colour.   


I wanted the colours to be muted, with bright orange for the foxes. I was pushing for neon orange (cuz we all know i love the neon) but our tutor warned it might look too harsh so I went instead for a yellow-orange, which still looks bright  but not outrageous. 


Overall I'm quite chuffed with my prints - the cabin windows are slightly misaligned but apparently it looks like snow on the windows…I only did 6 so they are V LIMITED EDITION, just got to decide who to give them too.

Do a Green Thing

To start us off again after Christmas, we were set a one day project. I love things like this because they're quick and there's no time to get bored. I work better under pressure, and prefer shorter projects. They say longer projects give you more time to experiment, but I just get stuck in a rut and stay in my comfort zone - this year I'm BREAKING OUT and going to do more illustration and typography pieces.

Anyway, the brief was this competition brief set by Pentagram to create a poster promoting a "green issue" I chose "eat less meat" because I'm not a veggie, but I don't eat much meat so its an issue I can get behind.

My poster is aimed at kids to tell their parents "mum lets have an aubergine for tea instead of pork". Not saying all meat eaters are monsters, but monsters NEEEEEED to eat meat, humans don't.

Anyway here's my process sketch to painting - it took around 5 hours from start to finish.

Workshop: InDesign

We did InDesign today, never used it before. How daunting! This was me outcome of the day which am chuffed with - next step is to write the article and take the real life photographs to go in it wooo.

Did this an age ago but never uploaded it. Since then I can now use illustrator without wanting to kill myself.

Workshop: Information Design

I got some sad news the week before our assessment that my Grandma had died. She was an amazing lady, we were really close and she was a constant source of inspiration, so much so I based my Final Major Project on my Foundation on the story of her first love. 

Anyway, as I came home on the Saturday I'd not finished my Illustration project, nor done the Information Design workshop. I spoke to my tutor before I left and got set the Info brief to complete over Christmas along with any outstanding work. 

For it to be fair, I set myself just today to finish my info graph with my given topic on How to Bake Fairy Cakes. I made it all in Illustrator, so I spent the majority of the time swearing at the programme for not doing what I asked it too...I'm very chuffed with my outcome, I like the overall aesthetic and style. I'm glad I stuck it out on Illustrator because it was a challenge and drove me insane.

Workshop: Life Drawing

Workshop: Type & Layout

Not a fan of this outcome, but I enjoyed the workshop, even though placing the type by hand was very laborious and stressful aaaack.

Workshop: Print & Colour

Another useful workshop where we learnt practically everything about print, we were then sent off and given an hour or so to create a collection of found bits of printing. I created an accordion book just cuz I wanted too...

Workshop: Book Binding

I love book making, binding, folding, everything, so was dead excited when we had a book workshop scheduled so I could rekindle my love for the techniques. We made loads of foldy books, sewed a pamphlet, played around with crown books and I learnt a new one - the tab book.

A mistake blizzard book - was trying to make the above but I folded it the wrong way! Anyway it's cute isn't it, like little envelopes.

The genius tab book. Ok so I need to perfect this method as its really scruffy but it's a brill technique.
